I applaud the suggestion that people call the police on the bobo bike gangs as they ride the wrong way down one-way streets in search of a coffee shop where they can live-blog the making of their chai.
— I disagree with his point, but he makes it like it’s his job.  Oh, right, it is.  Jeff Snowden: Share the road, share the rules | Letters | OnlineAthens.com

Dial WEather 6-1212

Ever since I was little, it’s the quickest way to get the local weather.  (It’s DC weather, so if you’re outside the District, dial 202-936-1212.)  You can read about Neal Pizzano, the early morning guy, in this Washington Post article.

Or, if you insist on using the web on your phone, it’ll take you 4 minutes to do it:

rosiesiman:

“Finding the local weather on a phone in 2000 took 164 seconds; in 2009, it took 247 seconds. He explains that current mobile users tend to be very search-centric, so when asked to perform a task on a handset they are defaulting to the most circuitous route, the mobile version of their preferred search engine. This process entails error-prone typing, which Nielsen correctly fingers as a persistent culprit in mobile usability. It is worth noting that the study had one iPhone user who performed the weather task in record time, 18 seconds. “If any additional evidence were needed for mobile-dedicated design’s benefits, this example should surely suffice,” says Nielsen.”
